Summary
At the time of writing this book, Vargas has been publicly undocumented for seven years, and has been practicing what he calls "radical transparency" (177). Since publishing his coming-out article in 2012, Vargas has been prepared for the possibility of being arrested and detained at any time. He is surprised by the lack of response and action from the government and ICE. At one point, he calls ICE to ask what they are planning on doing with him, but is given no answer other than "no comment" (182). In 2013, Vargas testifies in front of Congress on behalf of the "country's eleven million undocumented immigrants," many of whom are "Americans at heart" (179).
