Summary
In "Search Patrols," Momma Galya covers two children's eyes "as their father drops his trousers to be searched" (63). The town watches. When the soldiers drag a man on the stairs, Galya tells them how to sign their distress. She then describes the way Anushka speaks to men, and the way the "townspeople / watch children" (63).
In "Lullaby," Momma Galya writes a song to Anushka.
In "Firing Squad," Momma Galya describes scenes from the streets, of soldiers regarding the townspeople. Though there was no shooting during the day, that night, the soldiers kill "fifty women on Lerna Street" (65). Galya believes the soldiers are seeking something in the body they will not find.
In "Question," the speaker describes a woman as "A quiet between two bombardments" (66).
In "Yet, I Am," Momma Galya continues to survive. She asks Anushka several questions...
