Summary
In Chapter 5, in a snippet from her personal journal, Parnell indicates that she is not sure if Americans revere soldiers or believe they are unfit for normal society. She does believe when they return from war with any sort of trauma they are pitied and believed to be weak.
Rain was pouring down when Parnell arrived back at the scene of Samantha’s death. Among the people there were Detective Al Gresino, Wilson’s partner, talking to Veronica Stern, a litigation lawyer with DPC. Stern had come to work for DPC only six months prior. She had previously worked at SFCO. Meanwhile, Parnell’s captain, Mauer called her, asking for an update. Parnell told him that the police and FBI wanted a contact in the DPC. Mauer said he would assign Fisher.
