Summary

Bunch sits at his dining room table along with Lightbulb and Earl, who is still recovering from being electrocuted. Bunch thinks that Lightbulb may be a heroin user, given his thin frame and long sleeves. Lightbulb seems to be planning on defecting away from Deems. Bunch asks Lightbulb to tell him about how Deems came to control so much of the Cause territory. Lightbulb explains that first Rooster was in charge, and then he died while Deems, Lightbulb, and several other boys were in jail. In jail, Deems got into a fight with another boy named Mark Bumpus, or Bumps as he is called. Bumps later asked Deems to share some of his commissary food, which he refused to do.
