Chapters 49-54 Summary

In chapter forty-nine, Karou, Zuzana, and Mik examine Ziri's body and discover he has been fed as. Thiago tries to convince Karou to make a new body for Ziri, but Karou refuses, wanting to keep the one original Kirin inside his original body. Thiago tries questioning Ziri, but he is too badly wounded to speak, so The White Wolf gives Karou permission to try to heal him in his present body. The process takes a long time, and by the end of it, an exhausted Karou loses consciousness.

In chapter fifty, Zuzana watches over Karou, but she is starving, and suggests that she and Mik go down and eat with the chimaera. They each are somewhat concerned about what will happen to them if they get separated, fearing that one of them might be replaced by an impostor, so they come...
