Chapters 43-48 Summary

In chapter forty-three, Ziri confronts Jael, along with a dozen other seraphs. They taunt each other briefly, then Jael informs him they are not going to kill the Kirin. Regardless, Ziri attacks and begins killing them. The seraph fight back, but Jael remains insistent that they do not kill him. Jael finally subdues Ziri and demands to know who Ziri's thurible is for. He wants to know who is bringing back the chimaera soldiers. Ziri refuses to tell him, and Jael prepares to torture him.

In chapter forty-four, Karou demands that the approaching humans not be harmed. Thiago believes they may be a danger, so she goes down the path to meet the hikers and take them into the granary, but is stunned to discover they are Zuzana and Mik. She realizes she accidentally gave Zuzana the clues to her location...
