Chapters 7-12 Summary

In chapter seven, Zuzana emails Karou once again, beginning to fear that her best friend is dead.

In chapter eight, Akiva is back in his old life as a soldier in the emperor's war against Chimaera. He dreads going back to the battles, because he no longer believes in the cause. He also knows that Karou's soul is alive and out in the world somewhere, but it was not in the thurible he found inside the caves. He returns to Prague and discovers Zuzana and Mik in Karou's old room. He has also found out that someone has been killing angels north of the empire.

In chapter nine, Mik is together with Zuzana. Mik asks Zuzana if Karou used to collect teeth, which Zuzana confirms. He shows her something on television.
