Summary

Robbie stays with Violet while Dan takes Nathan to school. He helps her build a block tower. Then Chess arrives and drops off her baby Odin. She and Dan’s brother Garth had Odin together, but are not a couple. Garth was late to collect Odin, so Chess asks Robbie to watch him. While holding Odin, Robbie thinks about children, age, and time.

Dan takes Nathan to school. He considers how Nathan is changing. He worries about Nathan’s friendships with Chad and Harrison. Nathan wants to fit in, but Dan knows he “is kinder than his friends” (65). After leaving, Dan wonders if Nathan understands his own privilege.

Robbie posts on Wolfe’s Instagram again, but makes a mistake. The picture is in Brooklyn, but Wolfe “is upstate” with his girlfriend today (67). His followers do not notice the error.
