City

The city is where David moves after leaving his home town. He never indicates which city it is. The author implies that it is New York City, but this is never explicitly said in the novel. The city is the primary setting for the majority of the novel.

Merryvale Township

Merryvale Township is where Mrs. Boring lives and where David Boring was raised. Again, the author never states where this township is located. When Whitey dies, David returns to Merryvale Township for Whitey's funeral.

Lucky Penny

When Whitey comes to visit David in the city, he brings his lucky penny with him. He gives it to David as a gift. Whitey says that his father gave him the lucky penny and it has brought him luck throughout his life.
