Point of View
The novel is written in third person from limited perspectives. The perspective changes often, making the view sometimes seem omniscient. However, it is not omniscient. For example, there is a scene fairly early in the novel in which Dava is talking with the rest of the family in the kitchen. The reader sees that scene through Sandi's perspective. Sita and Kali notice that Dava's hands are fluttering. The only reason the reader knows that is because Sandi notices it. The reader does not know what Dava, Kali, or Sita think about that situation. The reader learns what some characters are thinking and feeling, though this is limited to one character per scene. Most of the scenes are limited to Dava's perspective. However, she is not present in a lot of those scenes, meaning the author switches to some other perspective.
