Chapters 9-10 Summary

Chapter 9. At midwinter, Sorcha makes plans to escape to the river alone to see her brothers, but is sidetracked when Margery goes into labor. Sorcha is reluctantly allowed into the room to help. Even though Sorcha successfully delivers the child, many still distrust her.

Sorcha arrives at the river shortly before dawn, but there is no sign of her brothers. Sorcha collapses in tears. Red arrives and sits quietly beside Sorcha as she cries. Red makes Sorcha a promise that the moment she is able to tell him of his brother, he will return her to her home.

Sorcha goes in search of more starwort and is surprised when Lord Richard comes upon her. Word is sent to Red and he quickly comes to her rescue. However, Red is angry and forces Sorcha to promise she will never place herself in...
