Summary

In Chapter 17, Ana and the others gather with the exception of Linzi who is with Hewett and Virgil who is on the bridge. Ana outlines the situation, including that HP and LI have been involved in a “cold war over tech for 150 years” (96). She says Hewett wanted them to go on to the secret base but offers the option to return to California and hand the situation over to authorities. A girl named Kiya Jensen asks if Ana is in charge and if anyone has a problem with it. Several look at Gem. Most students see him as capable and the natural leader who would take charge.
