Chapter Seven Summary

One day, Jaenelle finally comes home. She is looking thin and frail. Daemon's reaction to her is intense, and at first he is afraid that he is attracted to a child. He is relieved when he finds that it is her soul, and not her body, that draws him to her.

The next day he walks with Jaenelle and Wilhelmina, hanging behind to let them talk privately. They go to the alcove and sit there, but Jaenelle senses that Graff, Wilhelmina's tutor, is looking for her. Jaenelle then senses that Leland wants Daemon, and pulls him along to the house, magically pushing him through a closed door. Later that night he finds her in the library, secretly reading books about the Craft. He magically vanishes some of the conspicuous books to let her know that he is on her side.
