Point of View
The point of view of "Daughter of Smoke and Bone" is third-person, and almost omniscient. While various chapters take the perspectives of different characters, it is clear that there are many facts that they do not know about the others. However, these facts are still available to the reader, even if they are concealed in the minds of the various figures in the story. The author does not reveal everything at once, and uses the shifting points of view to build the entire plot of the story. For instance, Brimstone knows that Karou is Madrigal, but Akiva and Karou do not. And Akiva knows that he killed Brimstone and Karou's other family, but Karou does not.
