Karou/Madrigal

For the majority of the book, the reader knows Karou as a 17 year old, blue-haired, tattooed artist who lives in Prague. She experiences the normal teenage problems, like ex-boyfriend troubles and worrying about completing her homework on time, but her life is far from normal. The reader quickly learns that Karou was raised by an alternative race, the chimaera - specifically Brimstone, Issa, Yasri and Twiga - and that she lives a secret life where she visits them and runs errands for Brimstone, her father figure and boss.

Karou reveals that goes around the world collecting teeth for Brimstone, a job she doesn't like or understand, but that she earns wishes for doing so. She has used these wishes to give herself blue hair, the ability to speak over 20 languages and to cause minor irritations to others. Despite feeling that the chimaera are her family, Karou feels...
