Chapters 46-50, Sudden, Evanescence, Pure, Teeth, Sugared Summary

Chapter 46, less than a page long, finds Karou grabbing her neck and gasping in relief when she feels that it's intact. She looks at Akiva and says his name with a new tone, a tone that is rich and from her whole self. Karou takes off her gloves and stares at her eye tattoos, understanding now everything that Brimstone has done.

In chapter 47, Madrigal is discussing the circumstances of her death- an execution for all to see. She remembers how her wings were pinned back for humiliation but how they could never make her repent. She was guilty of treason because she loved the enemy. Part of her execution was that Akiva was forced to watch.
