In chapter 16, Akiva returns to Izil after not being able to catch Karou before she entered the portal door. He sees Razgut reaching out to him, calling him a brother. After looking more closely at Razgut, Akiva could see features that indicated a past beauty and he knew that Razgut was one of the fallen seraphs.

Before meeting Razgut, Akiva thought that the fallen seraphs were a legend but he could see now, looking at how broken and punished Razgut is, that it is true. Razgut continued to state that Akiva was here because his punishment was over and he was going home but Akiva focused on Izil, asking him about Karou.
