Karou hurries to Brimstone in chapter 11 because he has never said please before. Issa asks Karou not to criticize him like she often does. Brimstone tells her that he was afraid she'd decided to follow her freedom when she didn't come. Karou asks for an explanation and Brimstone explains that there will be a day when she leaves them, as she must.

Karou had never thought of this possibility. Brimstone says that it's time for her to get more human teeth in Morocco and Karou notices that his teeth jars are near empty. Karou says she will never leave him and he dismisses this. Karou can't help wondering if something's wrong.
