Summary

PART THREE begins with Chapter 24 from Clearsight's perspective. Listener is in Clearsight's room as they prepare for a festival. Listener is excited about being invited but Clearsight says Queen Vigilance seems to search for reasons for a party. Darkstalker arrives and gives Clearsight the earrings he bought for her. She immediately asks if there are any spells on them and Darkstalker acts angry at the suggestion. Clearsight and Listener talk about Listener's newest crush. They find Fathom, Darkstalker, and Whiteout together, playing a game. As soon as Clearsight sees Listener's crush, Thoughtful, she clearly sees his two possible futures. One is with a dragon who “loved him more than he loved her, where both of them felt vaguely unsatisfied all the time, but at least nobody died” (233). The other future has great love but is “harder and darker” (233). When Thoughtful joins them, Clearsight...
