Chapter 16 Summary

With only eight minutes left, Suze and Jesse search for the hole in the ground to get back into the basilica. When they look back, all of the fog and hall and doorways that were once there are gone. Then, they see a figure striding toward them that turns out to be Paul Slater. Paul tries to tell Suze she could come and go any time up here, just like he does. He tries to stop her from finding the hole, but Jesse attacks Paul. Jack appears and leads them to the hole with a rope wrapped around his waist. He says that Maria's in the church with Father D.

Jesse and Jack push Suze through the hole and she reunites with her body. The Virgin Mary statue is thrown on her by Maria. Suze gets up and fights with Maria. She breaks...
