Chapters 1-5 Summary

In Darkest Fear, Myron Bolitar is faced with the most perplexing problem in his life. Contacted by his first love, Emily Downing, Myron is informed that the son he hadn't known existed is dying, and Myron needs to find the missing bone marrow donor.

Throughout the novel Myron uncovers a family tragedy that is now tied to the horrific secrets of another, all woven through the medical needs of his son.

In Chapter One, Myron speaks with his mother at his childhood home, which is now for sale. His mother is concerned that Myron and his father need to talk to each other about their changing roles. His father is getting older and has suffered a heart attack, something he has tried to keep from Myron.
