Summary

In Chapter 8, Amanda and Jason wake in a hallway. There are doors spaced about 12 feet apart, stretching into infinity. Jason is filled with wonder that he is actually experiencing what he has heard about only in theory. They walk a mile past doors. Amanda asks what they will do. Jason tells her they will experiment by trying a door and seeing what happens. They select a door and walk into a Chicago that appears to have been hit by some sort of disaster. Ash falls from the sky. There is no sign of life. Buildings are destroyed. Amanda and Jason return to the box.

They take another dose of the drug to transport them back to the hallway. Amanda tells Jason that she saved his life because she had never signed on to work for a company that killed people. She asks Jason...
