Summary
In Chapter 1, Jason’s wife Daniela convinces him to go to a celebration for Jason’s friend, Ryan Holder, even though it is their traditional family night. Ryan, who is single, won the Pavia Prize for his achievements in neuroscience. Daniela and Jason’s lives have been less dramatic in their achievements. Although Daniela had the talent to become a famous artist she was distracted by life, including her marriage to Jason, having Charlie, and battling through severe postpartum depression. When Jason mentions the Pavia, Daniela tells their teenage son Charlie that Jason was a genius but had given up his work for family. Jason agrees to go to the celebration but promises to be back in 45 minutes. As he leaves the house, he notes the tesseract chandelier, an anniversary gift from his wife.
