Ch. 1 Falling Summary

The book opens with a cryptic journal entry by Giomanach, in November 1999. The entry is from a young man who was accused of his brother's death. His case was debated by a council of elders, and Giomanach was found not guilty. Giomanach says that two clans voted against him, Vikroth and Wyndenkell. He adds that Wyndenkell is his mother's tribe. Giomanach wished that they had voted against him. He feels responsible for his brother's death. Though he says he is innocent of doing the actual deed, Giomanach feels responsible because he gave his brother the idea to call on the darkness. He also says that he wanted vengeance for something and that also led to his brother "calling on the darkness."
