Summary

In Book 4, Chapter 3, after Amir and Haris left Marty, Daphne called Amir’s cellphone and said she needed Haris to meet her at the Elit Baklava cafe. There, she had Saied’s Nokia phone on her table. She was said because Saied had died, thwarting their plans to cross the border.

Daphne said she felt foolish for wanting to return to Aleppo and implied that she would not find her daughter there. But Haris felt that she said this without conviction, as if she wanted him to assure her that she should go to Aleppo and could find her daughter.

Amir asked Daphne if they could all go home to the apartment, but she replied that if she could not return to the home where they had lived with Kifa, then she would just remain sitting at the cafe.
