Narrator of "Angelita Unearthed"
"Angelita Unearthed" is written from the first person point of view of an unnamed young woman. When the narrator is a child, she lives with her grandmother and father. Unlike her grandmother, the narrator loves it when it rains. The rain softens the earth and allows the narrator to dig up the yard more easily. Her favorite pastime is excavating the backyard in search of little treasures and trinkets.
One day, after an especially bad storm, the narrator finds a set of bones in the yard. When she shows her father, he tells her they are probably chicken, beef, or pet bones. The narrator accepts this explanation until her grandmother sees the bones and has a fit. She tells the narrator that the bones belong to her deceased sister. The baby died when she was only a few months old. The family called her Angelita...
