Summary

In "Kids Who Come Back," Mechi worked "at the Chacabuco Park Development and Participation Center" (119). Mechi's job was to "maintain and update the archive of lost and disappeared children in . . . Buenos Aires" (120). She worked alone, which she did not mind. As she worked on the archives, Mechi noticed that few children “ever reappeared" (121). Many of the children were teenagers, and had either run away with boyfriends, left to escape parental abuse, or were too afraid to return home and face their parents after committing misdemeanors.

Mechi attributed her investment in her work to her friend Pedro. They had met at a bar five years prior, had sex one time, and maintained a friendship ever since.
