Pages 37 - 47 Summary
On the way home from the night stroll, Douglas joins his friends to explore the ravine while Grandfather takes Tom home. Later, Tom sits by the front door screen as Mother irons clothes behind him. Father is at a lodge meeting until late. Hot from ironing, Mother sends Tom to get a pint of ice cream at Mrs. Singer's store, the last shop still open at 9:00pm. Once Tom returns, he and Mother share some ice cream. Mother starts to worry, because Douglas has not returned home from the ravine.
