The Complications of Love

Angus claims to have fallen in love with Anna Ramsay the first time he sees her and claims to hold to that love throughout his life. It's never really clear whether Angus is holding onto the dream of what he felt his life with Anna would be, or if he fully sees her for what she is - a woman who was willing to enter an engagement without telling the man who had already proposed. A further evidence of Anna's selfish nature is seen when she makes arrangements to stop by the shearing camp where Angus is working, though she must have known that it would create problems for them both and for their families.
