Chapter 1 Summary
The chapter opens from the point of view of Larkin, the shape-shifter reflecting on the successful victory of the battle the previous night. He is a man from the fantasy world of Geall, who has come through the portal of the Dance of the Gods to the land of Ireland. Larkin has no experience with modern-day foods and appliances and finds that he is very fond of Coke, cake with icing, and Blair, the demon warrior. Blair has a bloody red cross tattoo, which Larkin compares to the Queen of Geall as a marking of royalty. Larkin is fascinated with the woman from a world other than Geall.
