Chapter 2 Summary
Monday, December 1, 12:20 p.m. Lieutenant Joe Leaphorn sits in the office of Ed Pasquaanti, the Zuni Chief of Police. Joining them for this meeting are Cipriano "Orange" Naranjo from the County Sheriff's Office and J.D. Highsmith of the State Police. Pasquaanti explains to all of them that since the apparent murder took place on Zuni land, the Zuni Police have jurisdiction. Pasquaanti tells the men that there are two missing boys. George Bowlegs is a fourteen-year-old Navajo boy. Because he is Navajo, it is Leaphorn's job to find him. Bowlegs has implicated himself in the potential murder by disappearing from school this morning. The other boy, twelve-year-old Ernesto Cata, has been missing since yesterday and is presumed dead.
