Summary
In the second half of “Summer 1977”, Rich visited Lark. As the two men were driving, they saw a man walking on the road; Lark remembered that he was “Dolores’s boy”, Daniel, and chatted with him (91). While Lark was cordial, he, like the other loggers, was not fond of “tree huggers” and abhorred environmentalists who attempted to shut down logging in Damnation Grove (91). Rich held the same view, he wanted to use the access roads that the Sanderson company would build to haul lumber out of 24-7 grove in the future.
Later on, Colleen told Rich directly that she wanted another baby. He made excuses not to be intimate when he arrived home, saying he was too exhausted, but in truth, Rich was afraid that if Colleen became pregnant, she would miscarry again, and he did not want to put her through the...
