Point of View

The novel is narrated in the past tense in an interview format, as the narrative concept is that a fictional author is speaking to members of 1970s rock band called Daisy Jones & The Six in order to write their biography. The principal characters being interviewed are the band members themselves, singers Daisy Jones and Billy Dunne, guitarists Graham Dunne and Eddie Loving, bassist Pete Loving, drummer Warren Rhodes, and keyboardist Karen Sirko (aka “Karen Karen” (27)). Additional narration is provided by the band members' loved ones, friends, and associates. These include Billy's wife Camila, Daisy's best friend Simone Jackson, and various record producers, music technicians, and rock journalists. Towards the end of the novel it is revealed that the author collecting these interviews is Billy and Camila's oldest daughter Julia, who notes that her mother passed away before the biography was completed.
