Summary

In Chapter 4, Lola, Vadis, and Errol met Clive in a “glass-walled conference room” (101). The only “decoration in the room” was a “reproduction of a Magritte painting” (101). Lola was once impressed by Clive. Everyone loved him. He was successful, but personable and easy going. Seeing him now, however, frustrated her. He had become obsessed with what Zach called “Inner peace as outer performance” since marrying “a makeup artist named Chantal” (104). He explained to Lola that he and his colleagues had a new business called the Golconda. Lola was their first experiment (105).

After making her sign an NDA, he explained that using “a combination of subliminal messaging,” via social media, “mixed with meditation,” they were drawing all of Lola’s exes to the same neighborhood (109).
