Chapters 1-2 Summary

Chapter 1. Killashandra learns from Maestro Valdi, her music teacher of ten years, that she failed her final trials because of minor fault in her voice. Killashandra is devastated because she has always believed she would be a solo performer. and now faces a life of being a teacher or something as equally humiliating. Killashandra packs her things and leaves the school, without a plan or an place to go.

Chapter 2. Killashandra finds herself at the spaceport where it occurs to her that she might find a job off planet somewhere until she decides what to do. Suddenly hungry, Killashandra goes to a restaurant and uses her last remaining student credits to buy a meal. As she finishes her meal, Killashandra suddenly becomes aware of a terrible noise. Moments later, Killashandra hears a man demanding to speak with the control supervisor, claiming...
