Pgs. 764 - 814 Summary
Bobby Shaftoe and his group are still moving through Manila, in fierce fighting with the Japanese. MacArthur's troops are also attacking. Shaftoe is injured by a Japanese grenade, but he reaches the baseball diamond and finds Goto Dengo. They lock themselves in the women's bathroom and talk. Goto tells him where the children are since he is looking for his son. A man, a General, enters and recognizes Bobby, who has been missing since Concepcion. Bobby introduces Goto to Douglas MacArthur, who, with his staff, were using the men's room, and says he has converted to Christianity. Goto is embraced by MacArthur. They fight their way to the cathedral where Goto is baptized. Afterwards, Bobby finds his son, and MacArthur says he has a mission for Bobby.
