Chapter 10 Summary
On the way back to Richmond, Scarpetta learns that Frank Donahue, the prison warden, has been found dead. Not only this, but Scarpetta's fingerprints have been found on an envelope in Susan's house that contained several hundred dollars in cash. Marino meets Scarpetta at her home and tells her that he has been ordered to examine her financial records, but Scarpetta refuses until she can contact a lawyer. When Scarpetta explains her fingerprints on the envelope, explaining that the envelope was the package that her Christmas gift to Susan came in, Marino wants her to prove she bought the scarf, but Scarpetta cannot. After Marino leaves, Benton Wesley arrives with Lucy. Benton tells Scarpetta the warden was killed with the same weapon as Susan and Eddie Heath.
