Chapter 8 Summary
Scarpetta calls Benton Wesley and arranges to meet him at a ski lodge where he is vacationing with his wife. Scarpetta takes Lucy with her and arranges for her to learn to ski. Scarpetta joins Benton on the slopes. Afterward, Scarpetta returns a call from Marino and learns that the bullets in both the Eddie Heath case and Susan's match. It also turns out that no one can find Waddell's prints anywhere and all his personal effects have been destroyed. With the body cremated, it seems there is no way to verify Waddell's prints. Over dinner, Scarpetta and Benton discuss the cases. Benton wants to know what Scarpetta could have had in computer that the killer might have wanted which would explain why Susan broke in to Scarpetta's computer. Scarpetta cannot think of anything, except for Waddell's autopsy report. They discuss the possibility...
