Work Camps

Cassia is in a work camp as the novel begins. The work camp is a place where Aberrations work off their sentences. Cassia is a Citizen but she has chosen to go to the work camp so that she might find an opportunity to locate Ky. Cassia manages to sneak a ride onto an air ship taking new recruits to the Outer Provinces.

Outer Provinces

The Outer Provinces are the outer most area outside of the Society. These areas were once farmlands and villages. Aberrations are sent to the Outer Provinces to pretend to be villagers and farmers to trick the Enemy. Most of these Aberrations die during the almost nightly air raids before their six months are out.
