Jurda Parem
The drug, jurda parem, is a representation of how those who seek power and control will always harm those beneath them to get there. When used on Grisha, jurda parem enhances their abilities, but only for a short time. This allows them to do miraculous things, but nearly all of them die within the agonies of addiction.
