Summary

Chapter 39: "Nina" continues as Nina meets with Kaz and Inej as Genya gives Kuwei an antidote for poison. However, it does not seem to be working. So, Zoya uses lightning to restart his heart. Nina reassures Kuwei that everyone believes he is dead and he is safe. Kaz tells Zoya they need to get to the manufacturing district while the city is locked down. When Nina refuses to go with them, Sturmhond says both she and Matthias are welcome, and Nina almost guesses who he is. Kaz leaves for the Church of Barter when Nina sees a gravely wounded Matthias. Nina begs for parem so she can heal him, but Matthias asks her to save his countrymen and bury him properly. She promises, but breaks down until Inej comforts her. Nina tells Matthias to go until they meet in the afterlife...
