Summary

Part Four: "The Unexpected Visitor" opens with Chapter 17: "Inej." She and Nina reach the warehouse district where they see men gathering bodies to burn. The girls confirm the guard's routine and Inej reassures Nina that they will not have to fight. As Nina distracts the guards, Inej sneaks past' as a bomb goes off at the warehouse. After Nina joins Inej at the silos and sends the signal to get Inej climbing. It reminds her of the dangerous, high-wire walks she did at the carnival as a child. Now, She dreams of freedom from Per Haskell to finally live her own life.

As she prepares the wires with one of Wylaris creations, Inej thinks of her family. Her mother once said wire walkers were descendants of The People of the Air. She had trained endlessly, mastering everything her father taught her...
