Summary
In Chapter 7, when Taverner met with Magda, Charles was surprised how subdued the woman appeared. He noticed Sophia seemed to be giving her mother clues on how to behave through her fiddling with a Degas picture. Through the interview, Magda indicated that as far as she knew Brenda and Aristide had a happy marriage. She said Aristide had heard nothing about an affair between Brenda and Laurence.
Charles went with Taverner to talk to Roger. On the way there, Taverner admitted he was looking for a motive since everyone in the house had the opportunity to murder Aristide, but there appeared no one who had a motive.
