Summary

In "Book of Generations," 15-year-old Justine prepared to tell her mother, Lula, that she had located her estranged father. Lula had always been mysterious. Justine tried understanding her through her childhood photos. They lived in Beulah Springs, Oklahoma, where Justine and her sisters had all been born.

Later Justine announced she had found her father in Texas. She told Lula: "He asked me to go to Six Flags with him...He has a little boy now" (6). Lula's silence troubled Justine. Finally Lula said she would have to ask the pastor's permission before Justine could go. Afterwards, Justine looked at Lula's paintings while listening to her pray.
