Summary

The chapter “Summer” continues chronologically after the chapter “Spring,” after Evie and Liam are already married. Tommy moves to live with Rook in San Diego. Evie attempts to express to Liam that she wants to have kids. Evie and Liam take a trip to the mainland in order to buy an air conditioning unit. After they do, they begin to aimlessly wander up the coast, eventually staying in a motel. Evie mentions to Liam that she has a new desire to live off of the island with him. As the months progress, and their relationship gets to a much better place, Evie eventually asks Liam to no longer go on the long-haul fishing trips. “Summer” is the furthest-forward chapter in the chronology of the novel.
