Summary

The chapter “Friday” picks up in the chronology when Mom is visiting Evie in the days before her wedding. Evie and Mom drive into town to pick up her wedding dress, and Evie continues to privately resent her, as Mom constantly talks. Mom is instantly charming in front of the dress store owners, who she knows from her time living on the island. Evie feels a private pride in her dress. The two go get sandwiches and eat them in a park. Evie notes that she had told Mom that the sandwiches would be hot, and says there is no reason why Mom should be surprised they are hot.
