Bruno's Emails

Bruno's emails are symbolic of guidance. Throughout the novel, Sadie becomes increasingly engrossed in Bruno's writings. Over time, she grows attached to his ideas about the human experience and to Bruno as an individual. The emails therefore offer her guidance as she journeys towards change and renewal.

Stars

The stars are symbolic of interconnection. After reading Bruno's emails, Sadie discovers that she feels peaceful when studying the night sky. These astrological experiences also make her feel less alone.

Guyenne Valley

The Guyenne Valley is symbolic of isolation. The surrounding countryside is rural, vast, and quiet. While here, Sadie's solitary lifestyle becomes more pronounced, which in turn challenges her to reflect upon her chosen lifestyle.
