Summary
In Part 6, “Get Lucky,” Sadie reads a book about Louis-Ferdinand Céline. Céline was a physician, writer, and war hero who admired Hitler. While reading, she wonders about Robert. Then Lucien informs her Robert fell into “some kind of diabetic coma” and she feels gratified and lucky (244).
Sadie starts visiting Le Moulin regularly and works on the translation in the library. Throughout her visits, she builds the trust of the monks and library boys. However, she soon realizes that the women do not like her. Meanwhile, she notices how the Moulinards revere Bruno and Jean. After one of Jean’s library visits, a political argument breaks out between two of the other academics, Alexandre and Jérôme.
