Summary
In Part 3, “Joan Crawford’s Face,” Sadie reads Bruno’s emails about Neanderthals’ skulls. He also compares history to a spike driving “into the center of the earth” (103).
Sadie has a few drinks, takes Xanax and Ambien, and goes to sleep. In the morning, she makes coffee and eats some old Nutella she finds in the kitchen while texting Vito. Afterwards, she tries determining where Bruno lives “in the hills above Vantôme” (107). She has had trouble solidifying his timeline. He used to be married with three children. However, his wife left him after he had a tractor accident “resulting in the death of his daughter” (108). Afterwards, Bruno retreated from society and began living in a cave.
