Summary

In Chapter 13, Nick and Rachel embark on their drive to Malaysia. The further away from Singapore they get, the more Rachel and Nick relax. They stop off to buy food from street vendors and then proceed to eat their meal with their hands. When Nick speaks seemingly fluent Malay to the street vendor, Rachel is shocked that Nick speaks yet another language. He brushes off her praise, saying he just knows a few words. Rachel tells him that he is always so self-deprecating and asks if it is a result of him growing up in such a wealthy family. Much to Nick’s discomfort, Rachel pushes him to talk about his family and how much his family is worth. Nick says he does not actually know, and that he thinks his father knows even less than he does.
